Whoopi Goldberg recently shared her rather unfortunate experience about her 69th birthday celebration that has sparked controversy. During Wednesday’s episode of The View, Goldberg claimed that a well-known New York City bakery refused to make her a special birthday dessert because of her political views.
Goldberg, who was celebrating with co-hosts Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Joy Behar, and Sara Haines, revealed that Holtermann’s Bakery on Staten Island, a family-owned bakery cherished by locals, was the business behind the incident. She explained that the bakery refused to fulfill her order, citing issues like broken ovens, but Goldberg suggested that the real reason was her political beliefs. “They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff,” Goldberg said. “But folks went and got them anyway, which is why I’m not telling you who made them.”
Goldberg further clarified that her refusal wasn’t related to gender but to her outspoken politics. She expressed that while it was disappointing, she wasn’t going to dwell on the issue. “They did not like my politics,” Goldberg asserted, adding, “But that’s OK because, you know what? Listen, this is my mother’s celebration. Pick these up and celebrate with me and my mom.”
In response to Goldberg’s claims, Holtermann’s Bakery fired back, denying any political motives behind the refusal. The bakery emphasized that they were merely experiencing technical difficulties with their ovens, asserting that politics had nothing to do with the decision.
