Senator Joe Manchin, Democrat of West Virginia won’t run for re-election to the Senate. When America excels, we prioritize the nation over politics, collaborate across parties, and seek consensus. “Despite the risks, the fight to unite has been worth it,” he said in a video on X.

After much thought and discussion with my family, I believe I’ve achieved my goals for West Virginia. I’ve decided not to run for re-election to the United States Senate.

Manchin plans to travel the country to gauge interest in mobilizing the middle and bringing Americans together, possibly for a third-party presidential run.

To the West Virginians who trusted and fought alongside me to improve our state – it has been a great honor to serve you. “Thanks,” he said.

He expressed concern about the division between Democrats and Republicans nationwide, and how Americans were tired of the partisanship. He argued that Americans share common values like family, freedom, democracy, dignity, and belief in overcoming challenges together.
“God bless America, West Virginia, and all of you,” he concluded.

Manchin, ranked most bipartisan senator, may consider becoming independent or third-party presidential candidate due to his centrism and strained relationship with his party.
