A Sunday survey found that GOP presidential contender Nikki Haley surpasses former President Trump in 2024 head-to-head matchups with President Biden in swing states. A recent New York Times/Siena College poll polled registered voters in battleground states including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Trump defeats Biden in all except Wisconsin, while Haley, the former South Carolina governor, beats him in all six. She leads Trump in four of six.

Trump is up 5 points and Haley 7 points over Biden in Arizona. In Michigan, Haley leads Trump by 10 points to 5. Haley wins Pennsylvania by 10 points, Trump by 4. Trump lags Biden by 2 points in Wisconsin, while Haley leads by 13 points. Trump leads Georgia and Nevada, according to the survey. Trump leads Biden by 6 points in Georgia, but Haley leads by 3. Trump leads Nevada by 11 points, Haley by 6. As other campaigns have failed to launch, Haley’s candidacy has gained support in recent surveys. Her current poll results match Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the potential No. 2 candidate behind Trump, who still leads the polls.

Haley’s general election popularity may conflict with a successful primary effort, which would need Trump followers who embrace isolationist foreign policy. Haley, Trump’s former UN ambassador, has adopted her tough foreign policy opinions on the road. She has consistently supported Ukraine and Israel help. Polling was done by mobile and landline phone from Oct. 22 to Nov. 3. The battleground states have margins of error of 4.4 percentage points in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, 4.5 in Georgia, 4.6 in Pennsylvania, and 4.8 in Wisconsin.
